Dream it.

Morgan had a dream to create a salon
that would combine beauty and sustainability as one.

In 2019, Morgan made her dream a reality when she, and her husband Ken, transformed a historic 1940’s transmission shop into a stunning sustainable and life-style focused urban hair salon. The salon features environmentally-conscious construction such as radiant flooring – which uses less gas by heating water to maintain the temperature throughout the building – as well as recycled/repurposed materials and LED lighting.

The 10-month renovation resulted in a building and salon that are not only green and sustainable, but stunning — inside and out.

Find it.

Morgan’s search for the right building was not a quick one. She looked at multiple locations in Oakland County before she landed on the old Berkley Transmission building in downtown Berkley, Michigan. Her investment would be significant and, as a result, it was important that the salon be located in a downtown that featured a high number of like-minded independent business owners.

Empty it.

Once she purchased the building she and Ken had the monumental task of cleaning it out. Recognizing the potential for a salon in this old building took not only a vision for what the property could be, but also the determination, and patience, to see such a major project through to the end.

Demo it.

Once the interior was demolished, the potential for what could be began to reveal itself. The large window openings and high ceilings called out for an interior design that would celebrate those urban aspects of the space.

Green it.

A major component of the renovation process was making the building as green and sustainable as possible. The installation of a radiant heating system in the floor would ensure even heating while minimizing energy usage.

Brighten it.

All new energy-efficient windows, that include garage type rolling windows, allowed the building to be infused with plenty of natural light, sunshine, and, on nice days, lots of fresh air. The new HVAC system was chosen specifically for its low energy usage.

Customize it.

Every aspect of the interior renovation was done with the goal of truly customizing every clients experience. From the chairs at the individual stations to the shampoo bowls and color bar, (shown above), Morgan’s goal was to facilitate and enhance each customer’s experience.

Beautify it.

Once the basics were completed, it was time to turn to the finer details that would complete the salon. From LED lighting and energy efficient dryers to the live-edge wood dividers, every aspect of the interior was thoughtfully and sustainably built out.

Finish it.

The building renovation was a 10-month long process, that at times seemed like it would never end. But, Morgan’s vision, perseverance, and patience saw the project through to the completion of one of the most stunning renovation projects of its type that the area has seen.
